Do you remember LeBron James' dunk over Damon Jones? What about the one over Tim Duncan and Rasheed Wallace? Nobody would doubt that LeBron has got mad hops. His head is at the rim almost every time he dunks! In fact, he has a 41-inch vertical.

But the most interesting fact about the 23 year old superstar is that although he is one of the strongest players in the league - he still manages to have such a sick vertical leap.

You ask where is the problem? Lets take a look at LeBron's body. The guy is build like a bodybuilder. The problem is, muscles are heavy, muscles are even heavier then fat. By the way, that's the reason you first gain weight when you start running in order to lose some fat. You build muscles first and burn fat only later. So be patient in that case. Back to Lebron - as a matter of fact, at 240 pounds he is actually too heavy for his height (6' 8'')! The average weight of an NBA player at this height is 222 pounds. But he still gets it done, he still has a vertical that is well above that of an average nba player (= 32 inches)! So, how does he do it?

Ask me to steal, block out, sacrifice, lead, dominate. Anything.

But it's not what you ask of me.

It's what I ask of myself."

This quote gives you a hint to a point that is absolutely essential: the dedication. LeBron's work ethic is matchless (e.g. his body fat rate is 6,7 %!). Only Kobe Bryant's workout is at the same level. Lets take a look at an excerpt of LeBron's workout:

It's a 5 days a week, one hour a day workout (running and playing basketball not included, = additional 3 hours a day). Every day consists of different exercises, only certain exercises like jump rope are done every time.

Day 1 (Monday):

- Jump rope (400 jumps)

- DynaDisc foot-speed drill To develop the core, balance, and foot speed all at once, stand on the discs while holding a medicine ball. Do a small, quick hop so that your left foot is on the floor and your right foot is on the disc your left foot was just on. Hop back to your original position, then do a quick hop in the opposite direction, so that your right foot is on the floor. (20 moves in each direction)

- DynaDisc dribble drill Stand on one foot on a disc holding a basketball with both hands at chest level. (Be glad that it's not a medicine ball.) Bounce and catch it while maintaining your balance. (20 dribbles on each foot)

- Stability dribble drill Back to the medicine ball and the Core board. (20 dribbles)

- Instability push-up (right) Do 2 sets of 20 with your hands holding the Core board.

- Seated figure eight (15 in each direction)

- Leg curl (2 sets of 10)

- Seated leg extension (2 sets of 10)

- Hip abduction (2 sets of 10)

- Smith rack squat The safer squat (2 sets of 10)

- Front raise (2 sets of 10)

- Lateral raise (2 sets of 10)

- Rear deltoid raise (2 sets of 10)

- Single-arm dumbbell row (2 sets of 10)

- Elliptical machine (25 minutes)

As you may have heard, LeBron also uses belts to build stregth enhancement. Here are some examples:

- Parachute Running Chutes:

Using two small parachutes tied to a belt, LeBron does sprints using wind resistance for power and strength enhancement.

- Bungees:

Two bungee cords tied to a lifting belt. Resisted sprints-forwards and backwards, then resisted slides, also jumps.

As for the vertical jump exercises, the interesting thing is besides the common exercises like jump rope and calf raises, LeBron uses some special, very effective exercises.

Here is an example:

- Split-Squat Jumps:

Starting Position: Start in a semi-lunge position with one foot in front of the other. Movement: Jump up as high as you can, alternating foot positions in mid-air. (If you begin this exercise with your left foot forward, your left foot should be in the back of the right foot at the completion of one repetition.). Use your hands for balance, land softly and under control.
2 Sets, 10 sec (later 15, 20, 25 sec)

If you're looking for an exercise option that only requires one affordable piece of equipment, a little bit of space, and a good pair of shoes, consider a fitness jump rope workout.

For many people, jump roping is an ideal aerobic exercise option. It's fun, almost anyone can do it, and it doesn't require a gym membership.

Ease Into It

When starting an exercise program, it's important that you work your way into it. If you have been doing aerobic exercise for some time, you'll be able to "jump" into a fitness jump rope workout easily. Once you're comfortable with the motion, you can increase your speed and incorporate different jumps.

For those new to aerobic exercise or for those resuming an exercise program after some time off, it's very important to take it slow as your body adjusts. In addition, because jump roping is a high impact exercise, meaning that both feet leave the ground simultaneously, there is a greater risk of injury.

Even if you were a star jump roper as a child, chances are you may need to practice jumping as an adult. Go easy on yourself as you become accustomed to the movement. Even basic jumping requires a high level of coordination.

As you become accustomed to the movement, you can increase the length of time you exercise, the speed at which you jump, and the types of moves you incorporate into your routine.

Warm Up

For both experienced and new exercisers, it is vital to warm up before beginning a fitness jump rope workout. Warming up slowly raises your heart rate gradually, allowing your muscles time to adjust to the increased workload placed on them.

A good warm up for jump roping could be walking briskly for a few minutes, stepping in place, light bouncing on one's feet, and eventually slow jumping as you start your workout.

Once your muscles are warm and loose, consider stretching the primary muscles involved. This includes your legs, calves, shoulders, wrists, and ankles. Ease into jumping slowly.

Add Variety

As you become used to the movement and to exercise, your fitness jump rope workout will become easier. This is a signal that it is time to make some changes. Just as your mind needs variety to stay engaged, so too does your body. When an exercise program becomes too routine, your body adjusts and the workout is no longer as effective.

There are a number of ways that you can change a jump rope fitness workout to ensure that you continue to challenge yourself and improve your cardiovascular health.

One way is to learn new jumping styles. Crossing your arms in front, or spinning the rope to alternating sides of your body are just two ways you can mix up the style. Consult a jump-rope book for new techniques.

Alternately, see if there's a jump rope club in your area. You can learn new techniques and meet people with similar interests, which is also a great motivator.

Vary your speed. As your cardiovascular health improves, you'll be able to jump faster for longer periods. Keep in mind that this can also increase your chances of injury. One method to help offset this risk is to incorporate interval training.

With interval training, you alternate between easy, moderate, or difficult levels of jumping. You can do this by changing your speed from slower to faster. Interval training has shown to be very effective, and because you're not going full-steam throughout the entire workout, your chances of injury are less.

A few of my jumpers experienced approach run difficulties a little while ago. Here is an account of one session I did with a 25 year old female jumper with a pb of 5.91m [5.83m this indoor season].

She told me that the previous weekend it didn't matter where she placed her first checkmark she was fouling constantly and simply didn't feel right. So my coaching task was to restore her confidence in the approach run distance so that she could go into the next meeting and be able to run and jump effectively.

We did some approach run work away from the sand pit. I marked her approach run on the indoor track at Cardiff. We reinforced the concepts of how to start the approach run, the mid-phase body alignment and the attack to the board with emphasis on a good touchdown. She did 6 repetitions with no pressure of the board. But what we did additionally was to place a check mark at the fifth foot-fall. She is a left legged take-off with a 17 stride approach run which measured at 32mts. I wanted to her attain some consistency over the first 5 strides - this fifth stride touchdown was with her take-off foot.

She did a set of 6 of the initial start but slowing down at the half-way mark of her run-up. She was made aware that she had to be 'busy and effective' over the initial strides. This 'extra focus' appeared to help her. I told her to sight this check mark to ensure that her toe hit it.

NOTE: The overcoming of inertia [starting from a static position] is sometimes a large problem for inexperienced jumpers.

We then transferred to the run way and pit. The 5 stride check mark was set down and marked with a small chalked circle.

She also has a second check mark 8mts away from the board which coincides with the last 3 strides to the board.

We found that these check marks not only helps me to sight accuracy to the board but focuses the jumpers attention to maintaining balance, rhythm and coordination over the whole approach run distance. Also, some jumpers have a nasty habit of not maintaining an active drive all the way to the board - this something I insist upon because arms contribute approximately 30% to the lift at take-off.

After many repetitions of this she then jumped - NOT ONE FOUL - and she was jumping out to 90% of her personal best performance. I wouldn't and don't expect jumpers to jump really long in training because they simply haven't that adrenalin boost and competitive anxiety to put a big one out there. So I am happy with 90%.

Checks marks are an invaluable coaching tool and can really help the jumper focus on the different phases of the whole run-up distance.

Another thing we did was to visualise. She wasn't allowed to start the approach run until ALL she could see was a white lined 'tunnel' to the pit. This she could very well but does take a little practice. The last thing I asked her to do was to keep her eyes on the board right up until the last two strides. I even encouraged her to look at the board at the moment of touchdown. Some coaches might disagree with this because it might lead to unwanted rotation but you don't have to tilt the head forwards merely focus the eyes on that white board.

At the conclusion of the session we measured her approach run distance and it had gone from 32ms to 32.60mts. This is the distance she will use for her next competition. FINGERS CROSSED!!

She liked the idea of including relevant check marks along the distance and we will use them a lot more in our technical sessions.

Training at anything can be great for youths; it can lead to great adult habits like exercise, eating well and self-discipline. Self-discipline cannot only lead to great things in athletics, but in can also help in academics. Young men, like Jashaun Agoston, an 11 year old basketball phenom, actually asks his parents to stay up late so he can practice and study. With this self-dedication, he has already had unofficial scholarship offers from universities like UCLA and other top basketball universities. But the question is: Is it okay to start training children at young ages? The answer is yes. But it's just like any other athlete; new, old, young or elite; they have to want to do it. In addition, situations like this can decrease the rapidly rising rate of obesity in the United States youth, and it can also decrease the amount of kids that find themselves bored and getting into trouble.

Young athletes have to train the proper way, and this includes with techniques like vertical jump training, just like any other athlete does.They need to not over exert themselves because, when they do, they can tear muscles and torn muscles at any age can be career ending. Therefore, proper vertical jump training for young athletes is important so that they learn and understand how to prevent injury and also become competitive in their sport.

Training young seems like a fantastic idea to experts like the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). However, sports training should be designed around the child's abilities. A child like Jashaun could probably benefit from a targeted jump training program so that he continues to excel and avoids potential injuries that could come with the over exertion or extension of core muscles that allow for his growth into adult athletic conditioning. Having appropriately designed strength-training programs can benefit the muscular strength of kids and improve their flexibility, muscle strength, cardiovascular system and overall health as they grow as athletes. How many of us have said, 'I wish I would have started younger so I could have been such a contender'?

Many athletes today are judged according to their vertical leap and vertical jump statistics and it shows in many professional sports that these are the athletes with explosiveness and the ability to excel beyond other athletes. Starting young with the proper training in all areas of their sport can only benefit these young athletes as long as it is a program that is designed around the athlete's abilities, interest, and determination

So, what do you go if you're a parent and you have a child with considerable talent in a sport that requires vertical jump skills? There are many vertical jump training programs out there if you were to search the Internet or even maybe your local phone book if you're looking for a trainer in a major metropolitan area. However, you want to be sure that the program you choose is designed for young athletes.

Seven Tips For Jump Starting a Stalled Job Search

A growing number of jobseekers find themselves in the midst of a long-term job search. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. jobless rate soared to a four-year high of 5.7% in July 2008 and the average job search took more than four months to net results. However, some critics would put this number and the number of the unemployed much higher.

Helen Kooiman, author of Suddenly Unemployed asserts, "[S]uch statistics are inaccurate indicators. They do not include those whose unemployment benefits have run out or those who don't qualify for unemployment... Such statistics also do not count welfare recipients, temps (who cannot be counted as fully employed), or others who eke out a living on so-called self-employment." Neither do such reports include what the Bureau of Labor Statistics terms "discouraged workers" or those who "were not currently looking for work specifically because they believed no jobs were available for them." Their figures reached 461,000 in July.

A long-term job search can put a tremendous financial and emotional strain on a job hunter. "It's been a demoralizing experience and it's been very difficult budgetwise. I'm a single mother," Kay Marie King says, a former non-profit executive with a wealth of experience that is currently involved in an ongoing job search.

So, what can you do when weeks of a fruitless job search quickly turns to months? Here are seven tips for jump starting a stalled job search:

Tip One: Don't be so quick to blame everything on the economy (your region, your industry, etc.)

These issues certainly play a role in the current job market. However, it is easy to fixate on such factors and completely discount factors which we personally control. The next six tips cover areas that long-term jobseekers do well to revisit to jump start a stalled job search. Why is this so important? I am reminded of a woman I once interviewed that looked great on paper, but during the interview she had an incredibly offensive body odor. She remarked that she'd been on several interviews but she was "overqualified" for every position. It was a classic case of the problem (or her perception of what the problem was) not really being the problem. While most jobseekers don't have such an obvious issue, each one would still do well to take a long look in the mirror.

Tip Two: Conduct a candid self-assessment.

Look at yourself from the perspective of the potential employer. Compare your experience and qualifications to those typically required of someone in your target position. How do your skills and experience match up? Think of creative ways to to fill skill gaps and gain experience.

Tip Three: Re-examine your target position or industry.

Are you searching for work in a waning industry or oversaturated field? Is your desired position readily available in your selected geographic area? Being open to relocation may improve your chances. Can you apply your knowledge and skills to an industry that is experiencing growth?

Tip Four: Rethink your current job search.

What job search strategies are you currently using? If you are concentrating your efforts on strategies that are typically the least effective (like online job boards and newspaper ads) your job search will take much longer to yield results. Consider incorporating job search strategies that yield higher results, like networking and direct targeted mailing campaigns.

Tip Five: Re-evaluate the way you are communicating your message verbally and in print.

Communicating your message to potential employers in a clear and compelling manner is critical to job search success. Re-examine your resume. Does it communicate your value to employers by addressing how your skills and experience will meet the employer's specific needs? Practice communicating your value in response to typical interview questions, including, "Tell me about yourself."

Tip Six: Maintain your intensity level and a positive outlook.

It is easy to become discouraged over the course of a lengthy job search. Keep a positive outlook and maintain a high-level of focus and intensity throughout your job search for quicker results. Taking a systematic approach to your job search will help you to stay organized and on track during your job search. Yet, it is important to pursue other interests during your job search. Enjoy spending time with friends and family. Renew your interest in a hobby. Tackle a project you wouldn't have time to if you were working. Spending time in other pursuits provides a much-needed reprieve from the stress of a job search. You'll be energized and ready for the next leg of your job search.

Tip Seven: Build a solid support system.

If a self-guided job search has netted limited results; consider working with a career or job search coach. Your coach will help you identify any problem areas and offer suggestions for improvement. Another option is to join a local or online job search club. If a coach or job search club isn't available try building your own support network. Enlist the help of family and friends or connect with other job hunters. Taking a team approach to your job search provides an opportunity for constructive feedback, a fresh perspective, ongoing encouragement, and added accountability.

In my opinion, the hardest boss on Zelda OoT. Still rather easy to do, as you can see I got hit only once in the entire thing... Recommended HP: 7 hearts (I had starter 3) Recommended items: Bow (Yes it does do damage if you hit its face) One bottled fairy incase you balls up. Shield (I didn't use it) NEEDED ITEMS: Megaton hammer. Hookshot (To get to the temple) STRATEGY TO KILL ------------------------------ It's quite hard on an emulator AND controller, so if you're a newbie... prepare for a hard fight. He will start by flying out right away, so fucking leg it till he goes back into those lava things. He will pop out right away with his head, use the Megaton hammer to knock his face to the ground and then jump smash him once more. He will run off inside. REPEAT THIS. The further you go into it, the more he will move around. Before he opus up you will see the lava make funny nosies and you can see it, he does it once twice and three times the more damage he has been dealt. Rocks will fall around the second time you smash him with the hammer, so be aware of the shadow around your character.
